One of the most powerful tools that you can use in your online sales is an autoresponder. But, if you want to load up your autoresponder with follow up emails that really sell, then you will need to approach your writing very carefully. People generally do not like to be sold to. In fact, if they get the idea that you are sending them marketing messages, then there is a good chance that they will simply unsubscribe from your list.
It is often said that a potential customer will see your message about seven times before they will really decide to make a purchase or not. An autoresponder kind of changes that idea. It will give the chance to develop a relationship with your customer if you use it correctly. Here’s the first step in the process of writing follow up emails that sell – don’t sell in your first e-mail. A hard sell in your first autoresponder message is a sure way to get your customers to tune your message out.
It’s all about building interest slowly but surely. Begin by sending your prospects an informative message about your product or service. Or better yet, you can use your fist follow up emails to give them a few hints on how to solve a problem. Did they sign up for your list because they are interested in copy writing (for example)? Then send them a few articles with great tips about how to improve their copy writing, one article each day. Don’t give out your best secrets but definitely give them some good stuff that will keep them wanting more.
Then keep going! Maybe mention your product in some small way in your second or third or fourth message. Then, eventually you can ease into talking about some of the benefits of your product. Your final message should be a sales pitch. If they have paid enough attention to all of the great information that you have already sent them, then they will be ready to accept your advice as to what kind of product to buy.
It’s all about giving your customers more than they expect! When it comes to autoresponders, you have to give them more than they expect for free! Tell them a few different solutions for their problem. If your list is built up of people who want information about dog, don’t use your first message to sell your product about dog care to them, use three, four or even five follow up emails to give them tips on how to care for their dog. If you give out some good information, you will really be building up some trust with them. Then you can recommend that they buy your product. But, don’t do any hard selling until at least your fourth email message otherwise they will know that you are just trying to make money from them – people hate that.
Attack this kind of marketing carefully. Take a lot of time and care in crafting your autoresponder follow up emails because they are very very important. But, if you do this correctly, you can expect to make some great profits.
