Web 2.0 is one of the least well defined terms that we use in internet marketing. As I understand it Web 2.0 is about user generated content and social groups/communities, the groups are often centered around the content that other users have made. Many observers of the Web 2.0 phenomenon suggest that user generated content will become the most powerful force on the web, looking at YouTube and Facebook they might be right.
The social aspects of Web 2.0 are the heart of the power of the phenomenon; imagine what the benefit to you of a front page link in Digg, or how many visitors might come from a YouTube video.
We will look at various ways of generating and harnessing social movements by creating viral content, by using bookmarking and joining some of the web’s huge number of communities.
Training in this section will try to cover the most important themes within the Web 2.0 movement but can not hope to cover everything as the scene changes all the time, sometimes seeming to be very much fashion led.
